Best coffee in New York City and right down the block from me!  This establishment has been in business for over 50 years and for good reason. The quality of the coffee is excellent and it's family run with good service. Skip the Starbucks and head here for freshly ground, in-house roasted beans and delish coffee.  I love the iced coffee, with coffee ice cubes, and their house blend I always take a pound to go. Plus Armenian and European groceries.

So I stumbled on this place a few years ago before it became online famous. I knew it was popular in the neighborhood because of the clientele so I went in.

As other reviewers mentioned, the brew coffee is a bit lacking. I suspect it is the way the make it in a coffee marker versus a french press or something else. So the brew coffee is meh. Not for me personally. I have tried it a few times both ice and hot. I would not recommend it if you are a coffee snob/connoisseur. But if you are like my mom and swing maxwell house or think starbucks is too much, then you might like their brew coffee. It is super cheap too, so that is a selling point.

But the real value is their roasted coffee. They roast their beans on site and you can sometimes see them roasted it. They have all kinds of coffee beans and they sell it by the half of pound or pound. I brought some of their breakfast blend and was a bit concern as it did not smell great and the coffee I had in store was lacking. But I grind it up and used a french press, BOY was I wrong. The coffee was amazing, it even reheats well (I know I am the devil for doing this but I am student). I would recommend talking to the old guy if here is there, he might be the owner or have a connection. Tell him what you are looking for and buy some beans. Maybe pick up some Russians treats along the way.

I grew up down the block from this store. I would remember waking up as a child and the first thing I would smell out the door of our apartment was the smell of coffee. These guys roast their coffee every other week, and that smell is absolutely delightful.

When I seriously got into the habit of drinking coffee (in my college years) I gravitated towards exotic pour overs and $10 lattes. When I eventually moved back to Queens, this store stood waiting for me with its intense coffee roasting odor.

Who knew that this gem of a shop from my childhood would offer me the deals of a lifetime. The owners understand what it means to be a picky coffee drinker and they have selections for all types of flavors. My favorites have so far been the Colombian and the Kenyan beans that they have (though these change seasonally). Give this place a shot if you're looking for decent coffee at reasonable prices.

When the beans are fresh the strong house blend makes my favorite cup of coffee - especially compared to some of the more eclectic, expensive, but less flavorful options I have tried from other shops in Manhattan. I use a burr grinder and either a french press or a decent drip machine and it comes out great either way 90% of the time. You should get it ground for you if you are going to consume it within the next day or so. Honestly even 5 day old ground Baruir's house blend is better than a freshly ground bean that has no flavor or wasn't roasted recently. Of course that is the benefit of Baruir's - if you live as close as I do you can smell them roasting the coffee. I just hope people give them the business they deserve so they can keep going after all these years.

If you put more than 10 grams of coffee per cup like I do I would describe the strong house blend like I would a good cheese - it is intensely packed with flavor just to the point of almost being too much. It can make your day.

I'm a big coffee consumer and have been here several times since I moved to sunnyside. Staffs are no way to be complained. They are awesome. But the old guy ( maybe the owner) is kind of popular as mentalic patient and I finally faced him today, proved me he's got some issues on his attitude. Better not to go, but if you must buy coffee bean, you should avoid the old dude for your mental health.
